My work for the past couple of years has drawn direct influence from themes many of us have been forced to become increasingly more familiar with in such uncertain and confusing times: discomfort, instability, growth, metamorphism, and ‘the self’. I think in expressing vulnerability through my work and incorporating those themes, I am expressing the normalcy of such discomforts and hope to make others feel less alone in their feelings. I strive to express authenticity and to convey my observations in a very raw and impactful way.

I find inspiration in ‘being’ and in the raw authenticity of things simply existing as they do. I find it interesting to acknowledge the ugly and shameful aspects of things in much of my work, because they are real. I choose the aspects of a piece – such as color, composition, and materials – based on what I believe will most effectively convey the feeling and message intended. The content of a piece I put out into the world is often based upon what I believe I need to communicate to a larger audience.

My artworks are a way to convey emotions and thoughts in a way that I believe the use of spoken language never could. My current practice of choice is printmaking. There is something very personal and romantic about the process of printmaking. As I learn more methods of printing that predate modern technology, I think of how to contextualize them into a contemporary art sphere. I am exploring aspects of life and of myself that I’ve never done before while exploring the notion of an understanding of ‘the self’.
